Self-decision activity in hierarchical wireless sensor networks

This study proposes an energy-efficient periodic reporting approach with node activity priority in hierarchical sensor networks. Each of network rounds contains two phases to adjust network organization, and to gather sensing data. The study factors nodes' residual energy and scattered positioning into the clustering algorithm. Nodes' self-decision values related to their activity priority are influenced by several node's parameters and the probability of an event happening. The proposed formulae are reliable and effective for energy consumption as shown by measurements in the analyses and the experiment results.
