摘要
We investigate the electro-optical properties of the carbon nanotube (CNT)-doped vertical alignment (VA) liquid crystal (LC) cells. When the CNT concentration is low, the LCs and the CNTs form a guest host system. The doped CNTs increase the order parameter, and then increase the elastic constant and the absolute value of the dielectric anisotropy of the LC/CNT mixture. When the CNT concentration is high, the doped CNTs become entangled networks, disturbing the LC alignment and impeding the flow motion of the LC defects. The doped CNTs also increase the viscosity of the LC/CNT mixture. Without rubbing treatment, the response time of the 0.8 wt% CNT-doped cell is - 63% to that of the pristine cell; with rubbing treatment, the response time of the 0.8 wt% CNT-doped cell is - 92% to that of the pristine cell.
