Dynamical amplitude modulators made of liquid crystals

摘要

Dynamical light modulation is analyzed using liquid crystal device operated in the electrically controlled birefringence mode. The laser light is modulated according to the sinusoidal control signal, and the modulated output is a sinusoidal waveform containing AC and DC components. The well-known Ericksen-Leslie equation, which expresses the balance between the torques due to elastic, viscous and the external field, contributes to the observed results.
