Design of balanced BPF using folded half-mode substrate integrated waveguide and hybrid microstrip/slot feed for common-mode suppression

This article proposes a balanced band-pass filter (BPF) designed using a folded half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (FHMSIW) and a hybrid microstrip/slot feed structure for enhancing the common-mode (CM) suppression. The proposed FHMSIW possesses a relatively higher Q factor than other planar structures, such as the microstrip line, coplanar waveguide, coplanar stripline, and slotline, resulting in sharper band edge skirts for the designed filter. The in-band insertion losses of the FHMSIW BPF are reasonably low under differential-mode operation, and the CM rejection level is more than 50 dB over a wide frequency band. The circuit design is experimentally validated. Comparison of the measured and simulated data is presented in this article.
