A new approach with multiple grooves for miniaturization of quartz tuning fork

Beyond the conventional design of H-shaped quartz tuning fork originally developed in recent years, a new tuning fork with multi-groove structures and through-hole is proposed and investigated thoroughly to realize the miniaturized quartz tuning fork. The need to reduce digital consumer device has spurred market demand for compact electronics products that reduce the size and consume less power with the same superior functionality. To increase the vibration energy efficiency and maintain vibration energy at the beams by blocking the energy leakage to the substrate, we proposed through-holes with various positions of the beam and multi-groove and stepwise groove which are originated from H-shaped beam in the previous research work. In this paper, compare with conventional quartz tuning fork, all the designs of quartz tuning fork resonator was simulated via analysis software CoventorWare 2010 to reach a better solution in the development of miniature quartz component. The proposed design with multi-groove obviously improves the charge on the electrode and the design with throughhole enhances the displacement at the main vibration. Therefore, in the research the novel designs shows good practical approach while miniature the structure of tuning fork without increasing the crystal impedance and keeping a high Q value.
