Abstract
Saturable passive absorber Q-switches offer numerous advantages in cost, simplicity and reliability. In the past few years, Cr4+-doped Y3Al5O12 (YAG) and Mg2SiO4 (forsterite) have been investigated and shown to be good passive Q-switches for the Nd:YAG and several other solid-state lasers. Quite recently, Cr4+:Y2SiO5 (Cr4+:YSO) had also been demonstrated to be a broad-band saturable absorber for the tunable Cr3+:LiCaAlF6 (Cr:LiSAF) laser. In this paper, the tunable passive Q-switching of the Cr3+:LiCaAlF6 (Cr:LiCAF) laser with a broadband-band Cr4+:Y2SiO5 solid-state saturable absorber is reported.
