Stability analysis of opposed-pad annular aerostatic thrust bearings for high speed electro-spindle

Abstract

This paper analyzes the dynamic behaviors of the opposed-pad annular aerostatic thrust bearings of a high speed electro-spindle. The Newmark integration method and the modified resistance network method (ENM), which takes into account the equilibrium of the mass flow rate and the squeeze film effect, are used to analyze the time-dependent dynamic behaviors. It is observed that the stability of the spindle thrust bearings depends mainly on the bearing set dimensions. As final result, an acceptable proposed opposed-pad annular thrust bearing set is presented.
