Abstract
The alignment characteristics of the multidirectionally rubbed homogenous liquid-crystal (LC) cells were examined. A model which assumes substrate with various groove densities along various rubbing directions was presented. The elastic constant and the viscosity of the LC molecules were found to be the key factors influencing the orientation of the LC molecules.
