Development of Petawatt scale Ti:sapphire laser at 0.05 Hz repetition rate

Abstract

Petawatt scale Ti:sapphire laser, a pump laser based on high power glass, at 0.05 Hz repetition rate was developed. The pump laser consisted of a ND:YLF oscillator, a peramplifier and two 2-pass glass amplifiers with 16-mm diameter phosphate glass rods. The lasers were capable of generating pup energy of 60-80 joules, required to reach Petawatt powers. It was observed that this pump laser generated 14 J of a frequency doubles output at 0.1 Hz repetition rate in 80 ns pulse.
