Developing and assessing the usability of digital manipulative storytelling system for school-Age children

Abstract

The ability of narrative would effect on the language, logical thinking, and organizational skills for children, and stimulate children's creativity. We take the objective of 'how to narrate a good story' for school-Age children to develop a digital storytelling system-children version (DSTS-C), which could be operated by school-Age children independently and prompt children to create a whole story with a framework in this study. There were 108 subjects with 10-11 ages are divided into two groups. A group was carried out the learning and creating of story by DSTS-C and B group was carried out by Non-Digital Storytelling (NDS) for experiment. The usability of DSTS-C is evaluated by Narrative Scoring Scheme (NSS) and Narrative Assessment Profile (NAP). The results show that the DSTS-C, would induce the children's interest to narrate a story with creativity and logical, is better than NDS. The DSTS-C would prompt the ability of narration for children.
