Cylindrical near-field antenna measurement using a polarization reconfiurable probe

A cylindrical near-field antenna measurement using a probe with switchable polarization is described. The probe is a dual-feed crossed-dipole antenna with wideband operation, and its polarization can be switched between dual orthogonal linear polarizations by selecting one feed as the signal input port. The system layout for the proposed near-field antenna measurement is shown. Two S-band antennas, including a standard gain horn and a 1 × 8 planar array, are respectively selected as the antenna under test, and the radiation patterns obtained from the constructed near-field measurement system have good agreements with the simulated results. In addition, the use of the polarization reconfigurable probe can eliminate the need of rotating the probe by 90°, and consequently the test time is obviously reduced.
