Abstract

A novel experiment for determining the total and individual metallic ions contents in commercial antacids using complexometric direct and back titrations is presented. Developed using three different protocols, the experiment is suitable for general chemistry and introductory quantitative analysis laboratory courses. Students can learn about various concepts and skills for sample preparation, buffer solutions preparation, complexometric direct and back titrations, metallic indicators, complex formation, masking, and blocking.
