Automatic Drinking Water Control by Barcodes Detection

Abstract

The study designs an automatic control device to fill the cup with drinking water for different height of cup without any human operation. The device applies onedimensional barcodes detection to the height measurement of the cup by a USB camera. After knowing the height of the cup, it opens the electric water valve to fill the cup with drinking water. The device uses the ultrasonic sensor to detect the water level of the cup to determine when to close the electric water valve to prevent the cup from overflow. By the automatic drinking water control with no need for human operation, the study can prevent water overflow caused by improper human operation and avoid the spread of bacteria from pressing buttons compared with the traditional drinking fountain.
