Abstract
Characteristics of a top-loaded cylindrical monopole antenna with two shorting cylinders are experimentally investigated. The antenna studied has a low profile, and with the increasing of the radii of the cylindrical monopole and the shorting cylinders, a greatly enhanced impedance bandwidth is also observed. Experimental results show that the impedance bandwidth is about 14.8%, which is much greater than that (3%) of a corresponding monopolar wire-patch antenna. In addition, good antenna gain is also observed for the frequencies within the obtained wide impedance bandwidth.
