Abstract
This article presents a design for circularly polarized ring slot antennas backed by a metal plate with a small separated distance. The antenna is excited through a shorted L-shaped coupling strip, and good circular polarization performance can be obtained as long as the vertical arm of the L-shaped coupling strip is properly stretched. Both simulated and measured results demonstrate that the reflector-backed slot antenna gives an opposite polarization sense to its counterpart without the reflector.
