A 20GHz low voltage and low power VCO

Abstract

A 20GHz voltage controlled oscillator is presented in this paper. By using a differential Colpitts topology with LC resonator, superior circuit performance on low phase noise, lower power, and low voltage is achieved. Simulated based a 0.18-μm CMOS process, the VCO exhibits a 1.1GHz frequency tuning range centered at 20 GHz. The attained simulated phase noise is -113dBc/Hz at 1MHz offset with 1V supply voltage and 5.72mW power consumption. The attained FOM is-191.4.
